Frequently Asked Questions

  • As a counsellor, we are not here to ‘diagnose’, ‘analyse’ or ‘treat’ you. Our aim is to provide a safe and supportive place to listen and work through specific issues and challenges you are facing - whether they be minor or major. Counsellors will use their skills and techniques to work through your specific concerns, with the aim to increase your ability to manage them in a healthy way. At times, we may suggest other support options, should counselling not be the most appropriate pathway for you or specialised support be more beneficial.

“Counselling involves a safe and confidential collaboration between qualified practitioners and clients to promote mental health and wellbeing, enhance self-understanding, and resolve identified concerns. Counselling provides individuals who would not typically benefit from standard treatment options provided by their general practitioner or psychologist, access to cost-effective complementary psychological interventions, which are responsive to the individual’s mental health needs.” - Australian Counselling Association

  • We are registered with the Australian Counselling Association which ensures we meet appropriate education and practice standards, and are accountable to a professional code of ethics and complaints procedure.

We have experience and passion in working with people that may struggle to reach out for support, so you can feel confident you’ll be provided with a comfortable and supportive experience that is practical and easy to understand.

We exclusively provide counselling via tele-health, meaning you can engage in counselling from the comfort of home or anywhere you have a quiet space and an internet connection. We also offer appointments after hours and on weekends.

  • Once we have confirmed your booking, you will be sent a Zoom link via email and SMS. At the time of your scheduled session, you simply click on the link. You will need to ensure you have a stable internet connection, a device (mobile phone, tablet or computer) that has a working camera and audio. We ask that the session is completed somewhere private, quiet and free from distractions so you can make the most of the time.

  • Counselling services are currently not funded by Medicare. A Mental Health Care Plan from a GP will not cover services with a Counsellor.

At this point you are not able to claim any rebates via private health funds.

  • How many sessions do I attend?

That is completely up to you!

Counselling is a completely your choice at all times. Sometimes, talking through a particular concern in one session is enough to provide some clarity or relief.

In other situations, a person may find it useful to work through an issue/s over multiple sessions, especially if the issue is complicated or has been around a long time.

Some people work with a counsellor long-term.

Our aim is not to have anyone attend counselling for longer than they need and will not encourage further sessions unnecessarily. If someone feels they don’t require sessions anymore, then our purpose has been achieved!

How often should I attend sessions?

Again, this is your choice. However, in general, we suggest allowing two weeks between sessions.

  • Attending counselling is 100% your choice. Sometimes people don’t feel the need to continue sessions, their concerns have resolved, may not feel the Counsellor is the right fit or for many other reasons no longer want to continue. Therefore, at any point you do not have to book further sessions and are not obliged to provide any explanation if you don’t feel comfortable. You are welcome to re-book sessions in the future at any point.

  • Yes. Sessions can be funded under NDIS providing the plan has appropriate allocation. Please reach out if you need to clarify.

  • Sessions are paid for at the time of booking. You can cancel your appointment and receive a full refund provided at least 48 hours notice is given.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice may forfeit 50% of the session fee.

‘No show’ appointments where no contact is made in advance will forfeit 100% of the session fee.

  • Although we may support individuals with relationship or family based concerns, we don’t provide counselling to couples or families.

  • We only provide counselling support to persons 16 years and over.
