What is telehealth?
Telehealth is a way of engaging in an appointment between counsellor and client using a video-based platform, rather than a traditional in-person appointment. The use of telehealth rose during the pandemic due to social distancing and movement restrictions. Since then, many services including counsellors have expanded their use of telehealth after recognising the numerous benefits it has.
Ease of Mind Counselling have chosen to use Zanda Health/ Zoom as the way to conduct appointments, due to their ease of use plus strong security and privacy features.
What are some of the down sides of telehealth?
Some people can feel that telehealth feels impersonal and prefer face-to-face
An effective counselling session requires stable internet connection and a reliable device. Without this, it can create difficulty hearing each other or have lag-time, leading to frustration and compromised therapeutic dialogue
Telehealth isn’t appropriate for people that don’t have a private place to have the counselling sessions, as this can impact ability to talk openly and lead to privacy issues or impact the quality of the session if there is excessive distractions
What if I’ve never used Zoom or a video-call before?
No stress! Upon booking a session we can send you a step-by-step guide to make it as easy as possible. You can also reach out to us if you have any issues connecting at the time of the session so we can work through it.
What are some of the benefits of telehealth over in -person counselling?
Ability to access counselling from the comfort of your own home or other private space
For clients new to counselling, not being in person can feel less daunting than seeing a counsellor in-person
No travel time to a physical location
Reduces stigma associated with seeing a counsellor as there is no physical office
What do I need to use telehealth?
The main things are as follows:
A device such as a mobile phone, computer or tablet that has a stable internet connection
Somewhere private and quiet at your appointment time
